For the first 20 years of her life, Nomi knew nothing about herself, who she really was. She remembered that her name was Nomi, and she also had a strong affinity to the Force, and the one other thing that connected her to the Jedi, a green-bladed lightsaber. She never knew her parents, or any other relatives; three jensaarai mercenaries, Freekes, Raurin, and their leader, the most powerful of them, Briyt Tremayne. Tremayne helped her cultivate her Force abilities, and quickly discovered that she was very powerful in the area of Jedi battle meditation. Tremayne deceived her into helping them smuggle glitterstim and ryll; she unknowingly used her battle meditation to make guards fight amongst themselves while the jensaarai escaped with the spice. This went on for nearly 11 years; it was two years after the New Republic-Empire peace treaty was signed when Luke Skywalker happened upon the planet Sacorria while they were smuggling ryll into it. Master Skywalker discovered their ship, and confronted Tremayne; the jensaarai drew Nomi's lightsaber and tried to cut him down, and Luke was forced to kill him. When Tremayne was killed, he could no longer influence Nomi, and she became aware of his deception. She went with Master Skywalker to his Jedi praxeum on Yavin 4. Jedi historian Tionne was able to trace Nomi's lineage back to the original Nomi Sunrider, identifying her lightsaber as Nomi's; she finally knew who she was. Nomi left the praxeum after two years, following where the Force led her. She met The Skipper on the planet Barab I; feeling that the Force had led her to him, she went with him and joined the Council; since joining, Nomi took a Padawan, 13-year-old Agamarian native, Ceril Tyr. Nomi chose Ceril because she recognized the young girl's talent for battle meditation.
